Health & Wellness Exams

We believe that above all else, a comprehensive physical exam is the most important part of your pet's visit. From “nose to toes” and everything in-between, we always provide a full physical exam. During this time, we will discuss any concerns you have regarding your pet’s health, including physical or behavioral issues. Your visit may include blood tests, a urinalysis, and parasite screening, allowing us to detect early stages of disease (or perhaps none at all!). A wellness exam is recommended for all pets annually. Geriatric patients may benefit from a visit twice yearly.

Preventative Health

Our greatest desire is that we could prevent illness altogether. Believe us, we’d much rather your pets remain healthy throughout their lifetimes and not require serious medical or surgical interventions. We know that your pets are just as much a part of your family as your two-legged members, so we strive to ensure their well-being and will always help you navigate the health of your four-legged friends. This is why we emphasize regular wellness exams, bloodwork when indicated, provide vaccinations and parasite preventives, address behavioral issues, and promote dental and oral care. As the wise statesman, Benjamin Franklin, declared, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” We second that!

Surgery

We provide general surgery, including spays, neuters, as well as other soft tissue surgery. Advanced surgical needs, including orthopedic, vascular, pulmonary, or critical cases can be referred to one of our local specialty surgeons. Please call us if you should have any questions regarding the specific needs of your pet.

Dentistry

Just like us, dogs and cats can fall prey to dental disease. If left untreated, teeth can undergo bone loss, develop deeper infections, and ultimately become painful. Often, bad breath results and teeth can become loose and fall out. Our goal is to avoid all of that. One of the most significant ways we can impact the health and comfort of our pets is through good oral care. Your pet may never tell you his or her mouth hurts — he or she may simply stop eating as well and lose weight. Perhaps your dog’s bad breath is becoming more noticeable. Like your own dentist, we provide complete dental services including full mouth dental x-rays, cleaning, polishing, sealants, and when necessary, surgical extractions. This also gives us the opportunity to examine the mouth more closely for any changes to the tissues of the mouth. With every dental procedure, we aim to manage any discomfort by providing the necessary pain medications during the procedure as well as during the recovery process. Regular dental care also provides better health to the entire body, reducing the impact of disease to the kidneys, heart, and liver. Now that’s news you can sink your teeth into!

Radiology

We offer in-house digital radiography. When necessary, we have access to a team of radiologists to help guide interpretation when things aren’t quite so black and white. (No pun intended. Okay, who are we kidding? Of course, it was intended — no bones about it!)

Pain Management

Did you know that animals can develop osteoarthritis? Just like us, our pets experience degenerative changes in their joints and can become painful. Dogs and cats are tough cookies and won’t complain about their pain. They do, however, show signs of discomfort. You may notice your dog is slower to get up from a resting position or takes his time lying down. He may also not be able to walk as far or seem to limp at the end of a walk. Cats are also prone to painful joints as they age, but masters of disguising it. You may notice she doesn’t jump up onto the furniture as often anymore. Sometimes getting in and out of the litter box takes more effort so she soils outside the box. You may also notice stiffness or muscle wasting in the hind legs. While we can’t stop osteoarthritis, we can help manage the pain through a variety of means. Joint supplements, pain medication, acupuncture, and cold laser therapy can all contribute to the comfort of your pet. Please contact us for an appointment.
